I recently finished this book on a dreary rainy day in Central Oregon. I happened upon Tinely's book while back home in Minnesota. It was at the time when my mother was in an ICU at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis. We were staying at the Sportel's house in St. Paul not far from the local Patagonia Store on Grand. As usual I made my way down there to check out the local environmentalist activities going on , the new clothes line, and to see the book selection they had on hand. It just so happened that his book caught my eye and I am very happy that it did! It talks about change in life and how certain events can alter an individuals goals and outlooks in their journey. Well, to say the least, this book has taught me a thing or two about changes in ones life just like my father, brother, and I were dealing with in my mother's acute illness. For the last week or so she has been getting healthier but recently had a set back and is now back in the hospital, only time will tell the outcome as we hope for the best!!
As I started reading this book, I was enjoying it but would not necessarily recommend it to friends or family. Once the stories unfolded and the accounts of athletes trials and tribulations accumulated I have to say that I truly took many lessons away from its pages! Besides learning about an amazing amputee athlete by the name of Jim MacLaren my favorite passage would have to be that "books don't give answers; they give clues to help you cope, to make you realize that you are not alone in the endless endeavor to find answers to shifting-sand questions." If you do end up reading this book I truly hope you enjoy its many passages! Cheers to the days to come and for the day we have right now!!!
